Hallhaze Cottage, Sampford Moor

This cottage at Sampford Moor required full traditional restoration works. With new purpose made joinery windows installed, we removed the cement render jacket leaving us with severely decayed stonework, brickwork and cob. After many days of careful repairs and stabilisation to the original build, the property was ready to receive full integrated lime render application. We finished the render works with a soft pigmented limewash. Due to the success of this project, we have now been instructed to instigate full internal lime plaster works, bringing this cottage back to its former glory.

Steps Farm, North Newton

This magnificent traditional Somerset long house, cob built with a overhang thatched roof and beautiful oakcarved leaded windows had suffered decades of abuse, with the use of inapproriate materials and inadequate patching techniques. We removed fifteen tonnes of cement render which we recycled as hardcore for a new farm track. Although the property walls had been cocooned in unsuitable medium the cobwork was of outstanding quality. With minor repairs and lintel replacements, the property took a further twenty tonnes of premixed lime putty render. We are very proud of this project, as with all projects, yet it was executed in May of `09 which was one of the hottest months this year, so we had to battle with premature drying and uncomfortable sunburn !

Deepleigh House, Whitefield

Due to the very cold winter of 2009, this house which we had re-rendered in the summer of 2007 had a burst pipe in their attic space, resulting in the collapse of two edwardian lathe and plaster ceilings. Due to this building being listed we reinstated with oak lathes and nonferrous ironmongery. The lathe works then received a five coat lime putty plaster application. With all plaster works fully cured all ceilings received subsequent coats of a casein bound distemper. We also cleaned and repaired the original oak timbered ceiling beams.

Rockleaf

This development of four new-build, 4 bedroomed cottages required traditonally built, sonework boundary walls. All stone was harvested from the demolished pottery which stood there before. Stonework was laid in a random rubble build, with full lime pointing works and a pigmented capping. This traditional wall brought a sturdy and traditional finish to the project.

Houndsmoor

This cottage originally one of six, the other five of which were demolished in the 1960`s, has suffered damp issues since our Client bought the property. By removing all hermetically sealed renders and synthetic paints, we re-instated all render works with a traditional breatheable lime mortar thus allowing all the moist inherent in the build fabric to escape through the new limework.

Curry Mallet

We repaired and stabilised all of the three hundred year old plaster work in the top floor of this beautiful thatched 14th centuary cottage. Works included repairs to reed and plaster ceilings, sympathetic plaster conservation, and subtle lime washing.
